RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-143

A resolution amending the pay plan for the general employees of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County approved under Resolution No. RS2001-639, as amended, by including a salary for School Board Member.

Whereas, a pay plan was adopted for the general employees of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, by passage of Resolution No. RS2001-639, as amended; and

Whereas, § 9.02 of the Metropolitan Charter has been amended to allow compensation for members of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education at a rate approved by the Metropolitan County Council as a part of the general pay plan under the provisions of § 18.05 of the Metropolitan Charter; and

Whereas, pursuant to § 18.05 of the Metropolitan Charter the salary of certain elected officials may be established as a part of the general pay plan according to the provisions of § 12.10 of the Metropolitan Charter; and

Whereas, § 12.10 of the Metropolitan Charter provides for the Director of Personnel, after approval of the Civil Service Commission, to recommend appropriate salaries; and

Whereas, a Citizens Advisory Committee was asked to assist in this process by conducting a study to recommend appropriate compensation for members of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education; and

Whereas, the appointed committee made a recommendation to the Civil Service Commission to amend the general pay plan by including a salary for the position of School Board Member at an amount not less than $14,000 per year; and

Whereas, the Civil Service Commission agreed with the recommendation made by the committee; and

Whereas, it will be necessary to amend the pay plan created by Resolution No. RS2001-639, as amended, to include a salary for School Board Member.

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1. The pay plan for the general employees of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, established by Resolution No. RS2001-639, as amended, is further amended by including a salary for the position of School Board Member in the amount of $14,000 per year.
