RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-134

A resolution requesting the Department of Public Works and the Nashville Fire Department to store salt used for road deicing at fire halls across Davidson County and to have Public Works personnel across the County on-call near the fire halls to decrease the amount of time necessary to mobilize the salt trucks in the event of a snow or ice storm.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Department of Public Works has the responsibility for the maintenance and cleaning of Metro streets and roads, including salting such streets and roads during snowy and icy weather; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works maintains a salt inventory stored at three locations in Davidson County that is used to salt priority roads in the event of inclement weather; and

WHEREAS, there are currently 37 fire halls located across Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the salt inventory be stored at the fire halls across Davidson County and that Public Works personnel across the County be on-call to access the salt inventory at the fire halls to reduce the amount of time necessary to mobilize the salt trucks when inclement weather approaches.
