RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-130


A resolution recognizing John Thomas Patton.


WHEREAS, John Thomas Patton was born in 1955, a lifetime resident of Nashville, Tennessee, educated in the Metropolitan Public Schools, a graduate of Aquinas Junior College before joining the Metropolitan Police Department in 1972, where today he serves in the Property Crimes section; and

WHEREAS, in addition to serving the community through the Metropolitan Police Department John Patton devotes countless hours of his time interacting with and serving as a positive role model for young people in Davidson County, for example his work with the Una Recreation center; and

WHEREAS, the Una Pee Wee Bears Head Coach John Patton laid the groundwork for this championship season by sharing his substantial knowledge of football with these outstanding young men on the team, and their efforts recognized at the 2003 Music City Bowl held December 31, 2003, at the Coliseum; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Patton has coached the Una Pee Wee Bears out of the Una Recreation Center culminating with a record of 189 wins and 8 losses that include five (5) National Championships, three (3) State Championships, twelve (12) Mid-State Championships and three (3) runner-up titles; and

WHEREAS, some of his specific accomplishments include serving as a member of the board of directors of the Una Recreation Center, past president and vice president of the Una Recreation Center, coached basketball at Brentwood Academy Middle School, Director and Coach of Pee Wee football and baseball; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes such a public servant as John Thomas Patton for his tireless community service to the City of Nashville and the entire Davidson County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing John Thomas Patton.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Head Coach John Thomas Patton.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
