RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-129
A resolution recognizing the Cherokee Wolf Clan.
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Wolf Clan are Native American people banded together
in an effort to keep their heritage and culture alive through the teaching
of the Cherokee language, storytelling singing and dancing; and
WHEREAS, these American Indians were the original inhabitants of the State of Tennessee and have strongly influenced the heritage of this great state; and
WHEREAS, American Indian tribes were forced to leave their ancestral homeland over 150 years ago and relocated to what is now known as the State of Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, over 15,000 American Indians are today residents of Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, the Cherokee Wolf Clan is established and most are descendants of the original inhabitants of the State of Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Cherokee Wolf Clan who represent Native Americans of various tribes across the great state of Tennessee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Cherokee Wolf Clan.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to a member of the Council on behalf of the Cherokee Wolf Clan.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
