RESOLUTION NO. RS2004-123
A resolution recognizing Major Tom A. Dozier, Sr. for his service with the
Metropolitan Police Department.
WHEREAS, Major Tom A. Dozier, Sr., of the Metropolitan Police Department has
served with great bravery and ability in protecting the communities of Nashville
for 50 years; he has been praised for a career marked by selfless service
and hard work; and
WHEREAS, since joining the Metropolitan Police Department on November 16, 1953, Major Tom A. Dozier, Sr., who began his career as a Patrolman and Motorcycle Officer until promoted to Sergeant in 1971, eventually moved to the Training Division where he has served for 28 years while ascending through the ranks of Lieutenant in 1974, Captain in 1987, and Major in 1990; and
WHEREAS, while serving in the Training Division Major Dozier helped begin the Police Bomb Squad and SWAT Team where he was responsible for defusing many bombs and explosive devices and aided in rescuing crime victims from harm; and
WHEREAS, Major Dozier has served in a number of units in the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, including the SWAT Team, the FLEET Division, the Horse Patrol Unit and as Director of the Metro Police Training Academy; and
WHEREAS, Major Dozier currently heads up the Criminal Investigation Division; and
WHEREAS, Major Dozier continues to perform his duties with the utmost skill, dedication, and professionalism; his service can only be categorized as outstanding and he is well deserving of this recognition; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Major Tom A. Dozier, Sr., for his many years of service with the Metropolitan Police Department and wish him continued success.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Major Tom A. Dozier, Sr. for his service with the Metropolitan Police Department.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Major Tom A. Dozier, Sr.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
