RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-64
A resolution requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General
Assembly to introduce and enact the necessary enabling legislation to
allow the Metropolitan Government to license and regulate trailers drawn
by motor vehicles.
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code
Annotated §55-4-111 provides that there is no
tax on trailers used for the transportation of boats or on any other trailer
drawn by an automobile or truck not used in furtherance of a business, except
house trailers and rented trailers; and
WHEREAS, such lax requirements on the operators of motor vehicles pulling such trailers pose a risk to citizens of Nashville and Davidson County using the public streets and highways; and
WHEREAS, licensing and regulating such trailers used for the transportation of boats or drawn by automobiles or trucks would promote the responsible operation of trailers and increase the safety of the motoring public; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government be allowed to license and regulate trailers domiciled in Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and enact the necessary enabling legislation to allow the Metropolitan Government to license and regulate trailers drawn by motor vehicles.
Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
