RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-53


A resolution commending the Metropolitan Fire Department and the Emergency Ambulance Division for their efforts in the September 25, 2003, fire at the NHC Nashville Healthcare Center.


WHEREAS, on September 25, 2003, a fire at the NHC Nashville Healthcare Center on Patterson Street occurred which resulted in the deaths of several people and injury to many others; and

WHEREAS, this nursing home facility was multi-story with numerous occupants; and

WHEREAS, this fire occurred in the night and there were few people working; and

WHEREAS, the quick response and diligent efforts of the firefighters of the Metropolitan Fire Department and the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) of the Emergency Ambulance Division resulted in the saving of the lives of many people and a reduced disaster; and

WHEREAS, this event calls attention to the dangers that occur for firefighters and EMTs and demonstrates their faithful service under such dangerous conditions; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council go on record as commending these individuals for their heroic efforts during this fire and rescue effort.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as commending the Metropolitan Fire Department and the Emergency Ambulance Division for their efforts in the September 25, 2003, fire at the NHC Nashville Healthcare Center.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to prepare a certified copy of this Resolution to be presented to Fire Chief Stephen Halford.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
