RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-52


A resolution recognizing Joe Goldthreate on being selected the Professional Tennis Registry’s (PTR) 2003 Tennis Pro of the Year for Tennessee.


WHEREAS, Joe Goldthreate, was presented the Professional Tennis Registry’s Tennis Pro of the Year Award for Tennessee at this year’s U.S. Open Tennis Championship; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Goldthreate is founder and Executive Director of the Hadley Park Junior Development Tennis Program which serves underprivileged youth; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Goldthreate began his tennis program in 1985 with only seven participants; since it’s inception the program has served over 6,000 children; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Goldthreate is to be commended for his commitment to opening the doors of tennis to the city’s youth; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Goldthreate is the first African American to serve on both the Tennessee and Southern Executive Boards; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Mr. Joe Goldthreate on earning this national tennis honor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Joe Goldthreate on being selected the Professional Tennis Registry’s (PTR) 2003 Tennis Pro of the Year for Tennessee.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Joe Goldthreate.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
