RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-32
A resolution requesting Comcast to provide a minimum twenty percent discount
to senior and disabled citizens for cable television service.
WHEREAS, Comcast currently holds a franchise to operate a cable television
system in Nashville and Davidson County in accordance with Section 6.08 of
the Metropolitan Code of Laws; and
WHEREAS, Comcast is the only cable television franchisee in Nashville and Davidson County that is currently providing cable television service; and
WHEREAS, many senior and disabled citizens within Nashville and Davidson County are on fixed incomes and may have difficulty affording the monthly cable television service subscriptions; and
WHEREAS, cable television is of great benefit to senior and disabled citizens, especially those who are physically limited in their ability to be away from home; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County that Comcast provide a discount to senior and disabled citizens for cable television service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting Comcast to provide a minimum twenty percent discount to senior and disabled citizens for cable television service.
Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Virgil Cardill, the general manager of Comcast in Nashville.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
