RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-3


A Resolution requesting the Mayor to create an office within the Mayor’s Office to focus primarily on issues affecting the homeless, mentally ill, and those addicted to drugs or alcohol.


WHEREAS, the Mayor has created several offices within the Mayor’s Office, including the Office of Neighborhoods, the Office of Community and Economic Development, the Office of Affordable Housing, and the Office of Children and Youth, to address community and societal issues affecting the citizens of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, there is a need within the area of Metropolitan Government for additional assistance and services to be provided for the homeless, mentally ill, and addicted; and

WHEREAS, the establishment of an office within the Metropolitan Government whose primary purpose is to provide services and assistance to the homeless, mentally ill, and addicted, including coordination and collaboration with other agencies and entities that provide similar services would be of great benefit to Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby requests the Mayor to create an office within the Mayor’s Office to focus primarily on issues affecting the homeless, mentally ill, and those addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor.

Section 3. The Mayor is further requested to inform the Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 hereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
