RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-23


A resolution authorizing the Mayor to submit an application for the H1-B Technical Skills Training Program from the U.S. Department of Labor to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting through the Nashville Career Advancement Center.


Whereas, the U.S. Department of Labor is accepting applications for the H1-B Technical Skills Training Program to train American workers in high technology jobs in the areas of Information Technology, Biotechnology, Engineering, Architecture and Biomedical fields; and,

Whereas, the Nashville Career Advancement Center is eligible to participate in the grant program; and,

Whereas, the U.S. Department of Labor requires that the grant application be approved by resolution, motion, or similar act of the applicant’s governing body; and,

Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted; and,

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to submit an application for the H1-B Technical Skills Training Programs to train American workers in high technology jobs in the areas of Information Technology, Biotechnology, Engineering, Architecture and Biomedical fields, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein.

Section 2. That funds for any required match of dollars received shall be provided through the budgets of the Nashville Career Advancement Center.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
