RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-114


A resolution approving application for and acceptance of a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management to develop a program to train emergency responders to respond to a terrorist attack.


Whereas, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded a grant in an amount not to exceed one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management to purchase domestic preparedness public safety equipment; and

Whereas, application for this grant must be approve by the Metropolitan Council by resolution; and

Whereas, it is to benefit the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that the grant application by approved and the grant accepted.

Now, therefore be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1: That the application for the grant by and between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in an amount not to exceed one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management, to develop a program to train emergency responders to respond to a terrorist attack, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.

Section 2: That the grant by and between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in an amount not to exceed one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management, to develop a program to train emergency responders to respond to a terrorist attack, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved.

Section 3. That the amount of this grant is hereby appropriated to the Office of Emergency Management in the current fiscal year budget, based on the revenues estimated to be received and any match to be applied.

Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

Mr. President:

I move to amend Resolution No. RS2003-114 as follows:

By deleting the phrase “U.S. Department of Homeland Security”, wherein it appears in the caption, the first recital clause, Section 1, and Section 2, and substituting in lieu thereof the phrase “Tennessee Emergency Management Agency”.
