SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1564

A resolution enacting the annual salary increase for the general officers of the Metropolitan Government and the Davidson County Sheriff.

WHEREAS, Mercer Human Resource Consulting has conducted studies to determine whether certain salaries in The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County reflect appropriate compensation for the positions based upon the duties of the jobs and the comparative relationship with salaries of similar classifications in comparable cities; and

WHEREAS, these recommendations have been used as a basis for establishing the salaries of the Metropolitan Government employees as a whole, including the Mayor, Vice Mayor and Metropolitan County Council; and

WHEREAS, the general officers and the office of sheriff were included within the purview of this study; and

WHEREAS, the Mercer Human Resource Consulting report recommended the annual salaries of the general officers be increased by $8,800 (with $9,680 for the sheriff pursuant to TCA 8-24-102(g)).

WHEREAS, state law authorizes these officials to receive compensation greater than the minimum amount set forth in TCA 8-24-102.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the annual salary for the general officers of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County shall be $8,800 over the minimum salary determined pursuant to TCA 8-24-102, effective September 1, 2003, and thereafter.

Section 2. That the annual salary for the sheriff of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County shall be $9,680 over the minimum salary determined pursuant to TCA 8-24-102, effective September 1, 2003, and thereafter.

Section 3. The general officers and the sheriff shall be included in any future pay plan review conducted by The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County after the effective date of this Resolution.

Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

Mr. President:

I move to amend Resolution No. RS2003-1564 as follows:

By deleting the dollar amount “$8,800”, wherein it appears in Section 1, and substituting in lieu thereof the dollar amount “$8,000”.

2. By deleting the dollar amount “$9,680”, wherein it appears in Section 2, and substituting in lieu thereof the dollar amount “$8,800”.
