SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-917


A substitute resolution requesting the appropriate state authorities to review the use of the National Teacher Examination as a requirement for teacher licensing.

WHEREAS, teacher licensing in Tennessee should be based on the successful completion of the state endorsed teacher licensure program, including classroom experience and student teaching; and

WHEREAS, currently the National Teacher Examination, a standardized examination, is given top priority consideration when granting teacher licensure.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the appropriate state authorities to review the use of the National Teacher Examination as a requirement for teacher licensing.

SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly and to the Tennessee State Department of Education.

SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
