SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-844
A substitute resolution requesting the United States Congress to enact legislation to provide a safety net for workers who have lost their jobs as a result of the recent terrorist attacks and the downturn in the U.S. economy.
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has been developing a strategy and enacting legislation to improve the economy to provide disaster relief for businesses as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that appropriate legislation be enacted to provide a safety net for displaced or laid-off workers as a result of such attacks and the downturn in the economy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the United States Congress to enact legislation to provide a safety net for workers who have lost their jobs as a result of the recent terrorist attacks and the downturn in the U.S. economy.
SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to United States Senators Bill Frist and Fred Thompson, and to United States Congressman Bob Clement.
SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
