SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-769
A substitute resolution requesting the Metropolitan Police Department, local televisions stations, and cable providers to develop The Amber Project within the area of the Metropolitan Government.
WHEREAS, in many communities around the United States, a system involving running messages on local television stations and cable channels alerting the community immediately that there is a child missing has resulted with favorable outcome in recovery of such child; and
WHEREAS, in our community we already run similar messages for weather warnings to alert the community; and
WHEREAS, adopting a program such as The Amber Project could result in providing better safety for our children and protecting such children who may be taken from their home or custodial parent involuntarily.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Police Department, local televisions stations, and cable providers to develop The Amber Project within the area of the Metropolitan Government.
SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor, the Chief of Police, WKRN-TV, WSMV-TV, WTVF-TV, WNPT Public TV, WZTV Fox TV, PAX-TV, WUXP UPN-TV, WNAB WB-TV, and ComCast Cable.
SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
