SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-497
A substitute resolution requesting the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service to place a sub-regional or branch office in Nashville.
WHEREAS, in addition to the need for enforcement of illegal immigrant statutes, there is an increasing number of legal immigrants residing in the area of the Metropolitan Government who have need of services provided by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service; and
WHEREAS, in order to provide future services for such resident immigrants, it is fitting and proper that the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service place a sub-regional or branch office within the area of the Metropolitan Government; and
WHEREAS, U.S. Representative Bob Clement has introduced HR 329 in support of this effort.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service to place a sub-regional or branch office in Nashville, and further expresses support of the legislative effort of U.S. Representative Bob Clement.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to U.S. Senators Bill Frist and Fred Thompson, U.S. Representative Bob Clement, and to Mr. John Caplinger, Director of the Regional Immigration and Naturalization Service Office, New Orleans, Louisiana.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
