SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. SR2000-137

A resolution requesting the Tennessee General Assembly to adopt House Bill No. 2757/Senate Bill No. 2349 and to adopt legislation providing for the making of installment payments of fines and fees for reinstatement of driver’s licenses that have been suspended or revoked and/or to declare a period of amnesty for payment of reinstatement fees for driver’s licenses which have been revoked or suspended.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to adopt House Bill No. 2757/Senate Bill No. 2349, thereby removing the criminal felony provisions for operating a vehicle without a valid license under the motor vehicle habitual criminal act.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan County Council hereby requests the Tennessee General Assembly to adopt legislation that permits persons whose driver’s licenses have been revoked or suspended to have such licenses reinstated, provided they are making required installment payments on any outstanding reinstatement fees and/or fines which may be owed.

SECTION 3. That the Metropolitan County Council also goes on record as requesting the Tennessee General Assembly to declare a period of amnesty for required payment of driver’s license fees and/or fines for drivers licenses that have been revoked or suspended.

SECTION 4. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation.

SECTION 5. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
