RESOLUTION NO. RS99-50

A resolution honoring Dr. Dewey G. Nemec.

WHEREAS, Dr. Dewey G. Nemec has recently retired from the active practice of medicine after devoting more than fifty years to the practice of medicine, principally in the area of Pediatrics; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nemec received his medical degree from the University of Kansas in 1950, and after interning at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut, received his residency training in Pediatrics at Baptist Hospital and Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nemec served from 1952-1954 in the Medical Corps of the United States Army, having previously served in the Navy in World War II; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nemec has been actively involved in several civic and church endeavors and is also the former Chief of Pediatrics of Memorial Hospital in Madison, Tennessee, and the former Clinical Instructor in Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical School; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nemec has served over three generations of children in Nashville, having made himself available to them by even allowing them to call him at home for medical advice; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nemec further demonstrated his love and dedication to children by continuing to serve as their physician after becoming teenagers; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council honor Dr. Dewey G. Nemec for his commitment and service in the area of Pediatrics to the children in this community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as honoring Dr. Dewey G. Nemec for his dedicated service to the children of this community in the area of Pediatrics.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Dr. Dewey G. Nemec.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
