RESOLUTION NO. RS99-39

A resolution honoring Dr. Sharon Chaney on winning The Milken Foundation National Educator Award.

WHEREAS, on Tuesday, October 5, 1999, Dr. Sharon Chaney, educator at Hunters Lane High School, was awarded with The Milken Foundation National Educator Award; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon Chaney will accept the award on her own behalf from the Milken Foundation; and

WHEREAS, in 1999, Dr. Chaney is the only Nashvillian to have won such a prestigious award; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chaney has begun her twenty-second year of teaching in Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chaney has taught numerous classes throughout her career, in addition to sponsoring and chairing various extracurricular school activities; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Chaney has been elected the Teacher of the Year at each school where she has taught and in 1992 was honored as the Metro Nashville Secondary Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, at Hunters Lane High School, Dr. Chaney currently continues to teach since the school opened in 1986; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor Dr. Sharon Chaney on receiving The Milken Foundation National Educator Award.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring Dr. Sharon Chaney on winning The Milken Foundation National Educator Award.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Dr. Sharon Chaney.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
