Resolution No. RS99-25

A resolution authorizing the Mayor to submit an application for a law enforcement block grant from the U.S. Department of Justice acting through the Metropolitan Police Department for the benefit of various departments of the Metropolitan Government.

Whereas, the Federal Government is accepting applications for the FY 1999 Bureau of Justice Law Enforcement Grant Programs; and,

Whereas, the Metropolitan Police Department is eligible to participate in the grant program; and,

Whereas, the Federal Government requires that the grant application be approved by resolution, motion, or similar act of the applicant’s governing body; and,

Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted; and,

Whereas, the participating departments have submitted their intent to meet the match and the utilization of said moneys within their departments; and,

Whereas, the Department of Police hereby accepts oversight and management responsibility of the grant and the matching funds;

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson county:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to submit an application for the FY 1999 Law Enforcement Block Grant, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein.

Section 2. That funds for any required match of dollars received shall be provided through the budgets of the various participating departments, and that the Department of Police accepts oversight and management responsibility of the grant and matching funds.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
