RESOLUTION NO. RS99-21

A resolution proclaiming October 21, 1999, as "Stewart Clifton Day".

WHEREAS, Stewart Clifton served as a member of the Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County from 1987 until 1999 as a representative of the 18th district; and

WHEREAS, Councilman Clifton was a recognized leader of the council serving as chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee and the Planning and Zoning Committee as well as being elected by his colleagues as President Pro Tem during his term in office; and

WHEREAS, Councilman Clifton worked to make Nashville a better place through efforts to create and expand curbside recycling; improve public schools, libraries, and parks; improve the delivery of public health services; and strengthen neighborhoods through good planning processes and effective delivery of city services; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as planning committee chairman he guided the process of adopting a new comprehensive zoning ordinance; and

WHEREAS, Nashville is a better place to live because of his efforts during the past twelve years of serving his community; and

WHEREAS, on October 21 his friends and colleagues will honor him with a roast to raise money for the Council of Community Services, a non-profit organization where Councilman Clifton works as the director of the Policy Center.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming October 21, 1999, "Stewart Clifton Day" in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff is directed to prepare a certificate in honor of the day to be presented to Councilman Clifton.

SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
