RESOLUTION NO. RS99-20

A resolution requesting the residents of the area of the Metropolitan Government to observe Saturday evening, October 30, 1999, for traditional neighborhood Halloween activities.

WHEREAS, October 31st of each year, by tradition, is observed as Halloween at which time children engage in many activities, including going door-to-door "trick or treating"; and

WHEREAS, this traditional children’s holiday falls on Sunday this year, which is also the first day that daylight savings time ends; and

WHEREAS, as October 31st will have a shortened daylight period and is also the night before a school day, it is fitting and proper for public safety and for the benefit of our children that we encourage observing this children’s holiday on Saturday, October 30th; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting that the residents of the area of the Metropolitan Government observe traditional neighborhood Halloween activities on Saturday, October 30th so as to benefit the public safety and the general welfare of the children of the area of the Metropolitan Government.

SECTION 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
