RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1599

A resolution authorizing the Metropolitan Mayor to submit an application to the U.S. Department of Justice for the Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant and approving the grant award.

Whereas, the U.S. Department of Justice has accepted applications for the Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant in the amount of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000); and,

Whereas, the Metropolitan Police Department is eligible to participate in the grant program; and,

Whereas, the Federal Government requires that the grant application be approved by resolution, motion, or similar act of the applicant’s governing body; and,

Whereas, the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the grant to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through the Metropolitan Police Department; and

Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.

Now, therefore be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to submit an application for the U.S. Department of Justice, Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant in the amount of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000).

Section 2. That the grant from the U.S. Department of Justice in an amount not to exceed one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County acting by and through the Metropolitan Police Department for Project Safe Neighborhoods, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same

Section 3. That the amount of this grant is hereby appropriated to the Department of Police to in the current fiscal year budget, based on the revenues estimated to be received and any match to be applied.

Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
