RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1593
A resolution declaring the criminal courts building on Second Avenue North,
adjacent to the Ben West Building, as the “Beverly Briley Building”.
WHEREAS, This 10th Metro Council funded the construction of a new criminal
courts building to provide for the safe and deliberate administration of
justice for the people of Nashville; and
WHEREAS, The new building will join the existing Courthouse and Ben West Building in housing the courts of the city; and
WHEREAS, Beverly Briley took office as the first Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County 40 years ago; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Briley led Nashville in the formative years of Metropolitan Government, serving three terms and making the city a model for the nation; and
WHEREAS, Prior to his election as Mayor, Beverly Briley served as Davidson County Judge for 12 years. A graduate of Vanderbilt University and Cumberland School of Law, he was the youngest Tennessean admitted to the bar in 1932; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Briley’s distinguished service merits the recognition of the citizens of Nashville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as declaring the criminal courts building on Second Avenue North, adjacent to the Ben West Building, as the “Beverly Briley Building”.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
