RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1591


A resolution recognizing and supporting the Native American Indian Association for their efforts to raise funds to build an American Indian Cultural Center in Nashville.


WHEREAS, the Native American Indian Association has started a project to build an American Indian Cultural Center in Nashville in order to provide a venue for education about Native Americans in Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, there are approximately 15,000 Native Americans residing in Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, this community project would include a library collection by and about American Indians and their heritage and culture; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and commends the Native American Indian Association project to build a Cultural Center in Nashville in order to provide a unique educational and cultural venue.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and supporting the Native American Indian Association for their efforts to raise funds to build an American Indian Cultural Center in Nashville.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is hereby requested to send a copy of this Resolution to the Native American Indian Association to the attention of Ray Emmanuel, the Executive Director of the Association.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
