RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1556
A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Metropolitan Department of Public Works,
and the Metropolitan Arts Commission to establish a graffiti abatement
program.
WHEREAS, graffiti on public and private buildings and structures creates an
aesthetically unpleasing environment and contributes to the degradation of
a community; and
WHEREAS, there are certain areas within Nashville and Davidson County that are prone to graffiti, which affects the quality of life of the citizens and creates an unsightly atmosphere for tourists visiting Nashville; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government create a graffiti abatement program to clean graffiti from public property and from private property at a reasonable cost to the property owner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That
the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor,
the Metropolitan Department of Public Works, and the Metropolitan
Arts Commission to establish a graffiti abatement program to clean graffiti
from public property and from private property at a reasonable cost to the
property owner or occupant.
Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy
of this Resolution to the Mayor, to the director of the Department of Public
Works, and to each member of the Metropolitan Arts Commission.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
