RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1531


A resolution authorizing the Mayor to submit an application for the Homeland Security Overtime Program from the United States Department of Justice to The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting through the Metropolitan Police Department.


Whereas, the United States Department of Justice is accepting applications for the Homeland Security Overtime Program to pay overtime salaries for police officers conducting site surveys at all metro schools and other locations listed as possible targets in the event of a terrorist or other attack; including mass evacuation plans for the Gaylord Entertainment Center and Nashville Coliseum; and,

Whereas, the Metropolitan Police Department is eligible to participate in the grant program; and,

Whereas, the Department of Justice requires that the grant application be approved by resolution, motion, or similar act of the applicant’s governing body; and,

Whereas, it is to the benefit of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to submit an application for the Homeland Security Overtime Program to pay overtime salaries for police officers conducting site surveys at all metro schools and other locations listed as possible targets in the event of a terrorist or other attack; including mass evacuation plans for the Gaylord Entertainment Center and Nashville Coliseum, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein.

Section 2. That funds for any required match of dollars received shall be provided through the budgets of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
