RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1503
A resolution recognizing Greg Ketteman for his administrative accomplishments
and community involvement during his ten (10) year term as principal of Hickman
Elementary School.
WHEREAS, Greg Ketteman is
a product of the public school system serving Metropolitan Nashville, a graduate
of Pearl High School in 1973, he received his Bachelor
of Science in Education degree from Freewill Baptist Bible College in 1977,
before attending MTSU where he received his Master’s of Education in
Administration and Supervision in 1981, plus 30 hours in Administrative Education,
and in the Spring of 2004, he will graduate from TSU where he will receive
his Ed. D; and
WHEREAS, Greg Ketteman has been a teacher of elementary and middle school students at Cora Howe Elementary, McKissack Middle, and East Middle school where he remained until offered an Assistant Principal position at Tom Joy Elementary School before being appointed principal of Hickman Elementary School in 1993; and
WHEREAS, Greg Ketteman played a vital role in organizing the Hickman Parent Advisory Board, the Step Club, the After School Academy, the Hickman Summer Academy, the Administrative Support Team, and the Student School Patrol; and
WHEREAS, Greg Ketteman played a vital role in initiating and expanding specific programs offered at Hickman, including the Guidance program, the ORFF Music program, the Pencil Partner program, the Union Planters cooperative program, the Volunteer Program for parents, the FLIP (Friends Learning in Pairs) Volunteer program with the senior citizen center, and the Union Rescue food drive with students; and
WHEREAS, Greg Ketteman was instrumental in obtaining financial support and academic recognition for Hickman by being a Library Power Grant recipient, improving technology by obtaining numerous grants, partnerships and donations from public or private interests, having SACS accreditation renewed, and reaching the “Best Readers in Nashville” goal; and
WHEREAS, Greg Ketteman is committed to increase the involvement with local organizations, including the Rotary Club, Practicum and Student Teachers increased to include all local colleges and universities, and Second Harvest; and
WHEREAS, Greg Ketteman played a vital role in improving the public perception of Hickman Elementary School through establishing a calm, focused atmosphere of learning throughout the school, welcoming volunteers to Hickman, meeting openly with parents, grandparents and community members; and
WHEREAS, Greg Ketteman has provided leadership that has fostered a climate of positive social interactions, good citizenship, and academic growth; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Greg Ketteman for his leadership role at Hickman Elementary School and his tireless community service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Greg Ketteman for his administrative accomplishments and community involvement during his ten (10) year term as principal of Hickman Elementary School.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Greg Ketteman, Principal of Hickman Elementary School.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
