RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1498


A resolution approving the proposed business plan for the Metropolitan Educational Access Corporation (MEAC).

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. BL2001-840, adopted on October 16, 2001, amended Section 6.08.080 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws to create the Metropolitan Educational Access Corporation (MEAC) as a not-for-profit corporation; and

WHEREAS, the function of the MEAC is to have responsibility for program production, management, and promotion of the educational access channels on all cable television systems, and to ensure that these channels “be free of censorship, partisan politics, and available for all forms of public educational programming for persons of all ages, including instructional programming”; and

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. BL2001-840 provides that MEAC must develop a business plan that outlines its procedures and methods of managing the educational access channels and a plan to finance its operations; and

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. BL2001-840 further provides that such business plan must be approved by the Public Educational and Governmental Access Oversight Committee, the Director of Finance, and the Council not later than June 30, 2003; and

WHEREAS, the MEAC has submitted a proposed business plan that has been approved by the Public, Educational and Governmental Access Oversight Committee and the Director of Finance; and

WHEREAS, the MEAC has submitted its business plan for approval by the Metropolitan Council in conformance with Ordinance No. BL2001-840.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby approves the business plan of the Metropolitan Educational Access Corporation (MEAC), a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit A and incorporated herein by reference.

Section 2. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
