RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1489


A resolution requesting Congressman Jim Cooper and Senators Bill Frist and Lamar Alexander to introduce legislation and/or take the appropriate action necessary for the United States Government to build a fire hall on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property located in the vicinity of I-40 and Bell Road.


WHEREAS, the United States Army Corps of Engineers owns unimproved land located in the vicinity of Bell Road and Interstate 40; and

WHEREAS, this unimproved land located at Bell Road and Interstate 40 is within the area of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, a new Metropolitan Government fire hall on this unimproved property in the vicinity of Bell Road and Interstate 40 would provide increased fire protection and emergency services to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property in that it would be the first response station for the J. Percy Priest Dam and Reservoir; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of both the United States Government and the Metropolitan Government that the two governments join in a collaborative effort to build and adequately staff a new fire hall in the vicinity of I-40 and Bell Road.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting United States Congressman Jim Cooper and United States Senators Bill Frist and Lamar Alexander to introduce legislation and/or take the appropriate action necessary for the United States Government to build a fire hall on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property located in the vicinity of I-40 and Bell Road.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to United States Congressman Jim Cooper and United States Senators Bill Frist and Lamar Alexander.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
