RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1475


A resolution establishing the Nashville Alcohol Policy Coalition.


WHEREAS, the Council is mindful of the impact that the consumption of alcohol and misuse of alcoholic beverages and their containers has on various neighborhoods within the area of the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, the Council desires to provide a proactive effort to address the issues regarding the effect that consumption and misuse of alcoholic beverages and their containers has on the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, the Council desires to create a coalition composed of representatives from neighborhood groups, the alcoholic beverage industry, the Chamber of Commerce, and retail establishments to study and address concerns regarding the impact that alcohol consumption and misuse of alcoholic beverages and their containers are having on neighborhoods in Nashville and Davidson County.


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:


Section 1. There is hereby created and established the Nashville Alcohol Policy Coalition (“the Coalition”) which shall study and address concerns regarding the impact that alcohol consumption and misuse of alcoholic beverages and their containers are having on neighborhoods in Nashville and Davidson County. The Mayor will appoint the members of the Coalition, and said appointed members shall be confirmed by a majority vote of the Metropolitan Council. The Coalition will be composed of not more than fifteen (15) members representing the following organizations and entities:

Neighborhood groups from a variety of areas within the Metropolitan Government;
The alcoholic beverage industry, including distributors, wholesalers and retailers;
The Chamber of Commerce; and
Retail food stores and convenience markets.

The Coalition will elect its own officers at a date set by the Mayor for organizational purposes. Thereafter, the Coalition will meet at such times and places as the Coalition may determine. The Coalition will issue a report to the full Council not later than June 30, 2004.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
