RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1453
A resolution proclaiming June 5, 2003, as “National Hunger Awareness
Day”.
Whereas, It is with deep concern for the hundreds of thousands of Middle Tennesseans who rely on Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, an affiliate of America’s Second Harvest, to obtain food for their families; and
Whereas, June 5, 2003, has been designated “National Hunger Awareness Day,” and Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee seeks to procure additional resources from our community to combat hunger; and
Whereas, The resources will benefit the more than 375,000 people in Middle Tennessee who need Second Harvest’s assistance;
Whereas, Mayor Bill Purcell, Chair of the Task Force on Hunger and Homelessness for the U.S. Conference of Mayors, is calling on all Metro Government agencies and Metro residents to take part in a food drive during the first week of June. Metro residents can donate food at area public libraries, fire stations, and police stations. This food drive is held in support of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, which is working to secure additional resources for the clients it serves as it continues “fighting hunger and feeding hope.”
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming June 5, 2003, as “National Hunger Awareness Day”.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, on behalf of their work with the “National Hunger Awareness Day”.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
