RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1451


A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to take the action necessary to commence the process of acquiring, by negotiation or condemnation, all of the property behind Hume Fogg Academic High School for future educational uses.

WHEREAS, the Hume Fogg Academic High School gymnasium is presently an unsuitable facility for high school athletic contests; and

WHEREAS, Hume Fogg is need of additional space for parking and other facilities, including a new gymnasium;

WHEREAS, the project to acquire the property behind Hume Fogg and construct a new gymnasium is included in the 2002-03 to 2007-08 Capital Improvements Budget; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Pedro Garcia, Director of Metro Nashville Public Schools, stated in his letter to the Metropolitan Clerk dated April 18, 2002, that this project is to be considered in the Comprehensive Facility Master Plan for public schools; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Metropolitan Government that the property behind Hume Fogg Academic High School bordered by Commerce Street to the north, Broadway to the south, 8th Avenue South to the west, and 7th Avenue South to the east be acquired for future educational uses.


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:


Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education take the action necessary to commence the process of acquiring, by negotiation or condemnation, all of the property behind Hume Fogg Academic High School for future educational uses.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to each member of the Metropolitan Board of Public Education.

Section 3. That the Board of Public Education is requested to inform the Metropolitan Council in writing of the actions taken in compliance with the request in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this resolution.

Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
