RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1446


A Resolution proclaiming the week of May 6-12, 2003 as “ National Nurses Week”.

 

WHEREAS, over 2.5 million registered nurses in the United States comprise the nations largest healthcare profession; and

WHEREAS, the American Nurses Association, the voice for the registered nurses of this country, is working to chart a new course for a healthy nation that relies on primary and preventive healthcare; and

WHEREAS, the demand for registered nursing services is becoming greater than ever with more nurses needed in the future to meet increasing needs of health care consumers; and

WHEREAS, the cost effective, safe and quality healthcare services provided by registered nurses will be an evermore important component of the U.S. healthcare system in the future; and

WHEREAS, National Student Nurses Day will also be celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week; and

WHEREAS, the nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association since 1897; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan County Council recognize these health care professionals for their outstanding contributions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming the week of May 6-12, 2003 as “National Nurses Week”.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the American Nurses Association on behalf of “National Nurses Week”.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
