RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1442


A resolution recognizing the Nashville Sports Council.


WHEREAS, The National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) announced the winners of the 2002 NASC awards which are given in three categories; and

WHEREAS, The National Association of Sports Commissions is a primary network for communication and information in the sharing on all topics relating to bidding on and hosting of sports events; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Sports Council received recognition as the National Sports Commission of the Year for 2002; and

WHEREAS, this award is given as a fitting testament of the leadership of the Board and the dedication, energy and commitment of the volunteers and staff; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Sports Council was founded in 1992 to attract and promote professional and amateur sports to the Nashville area; and

WHEREAS, the Nashville Sports Council accomplishments in 2002 include: hosting seven major sporting events, O’Charley’s Dinner of Champions, SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament, Country Music Marathon & ½ Marathon, both the AAU Ironman World Wrestling and National Invitation Girls’ Basketball Championship, the University of Tennessee vs. Wyoming Football game, and the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl; generated over ten hours of national television through events, utilized over 3,755 volunteers to stage events; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Nashville Sports Council for there continuing recruitment of successful sporting events to Music City.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Nashville Sports Council.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Nashville Sports Council.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
