RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1441


A resolution recognizing Mrs. Bess’s Third-Grade Class at Westmeade Elementary School.


WHEREAS, the third grade students in Mrs. Bess’s class were challenged with researching and writing reports on women who have made valuable contributions in America; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bess’s students were afforded the opportunity to present their reports to successful women in Nashville who then explained to the students what roles women play in various arenas which serve to broaden the perspectives of the students; and

WHEREAS, the students also created a website to allow them to feature their work in conjunction with National Women’s History Month, which is celebrated every March; and

WHEREAS, Westmeade Librarian Karen McIntyre, was instrumental in taking Mrs. Bess’s students’ projects and designing the Website for the class; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bess is to be commended for her excellent repertoire of teaching strategies, creativity, innovation and vision of teaching ideas for her third-grade class; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Leshia Bess and Karen McIntyre for their innovative approaches to teaching.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mrs. Bess’s Third-Grade Class at Westmeade Elementary.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Robert Bohrer, Principal of Westmeade Elementary School, Librarian Karen McIntyre and Mrs. Bess on behalf of her students.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
