RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1438


A resolution recognizing Mrs. Sherry Jean Williams for her public service.


WHEREAS, Mrs. Sherry Jean Williams was recently honored by President George W. Bush for her volunteerism involved with children of prisoners; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams is recognized by Reconciliation Ministries, Inc., as a dedicated volunteer who when you call on her she always answers, “How can I help” with a cheerful voice, and always first in line to serve in any needed capacity; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sherry Jean Williams is just one of millions of people who has contributed numerous volunteer hours, her energy and experience to help foster care families, the homeless, grandparents who are raising their grandchildren and those poverty stricken; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams is just one volunteer working to make our society a more compassionate and decent place, whether for foster moms or dads, or being a mentor, or volunteering for after-school programs to help save lives, particularly our youngest children and teens; and

WHEREAS, President George W. Bush, asked Congress and the American people to focus the spirit of service and the resources of government on the needs of some of our most vulnerable citizens – boys and girls trying to grow up without guidance and attention, and children who have to go through a prison gate to be hugged by their mom or dad; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes such a public servant as Sherry Jean Williams for her cheerful disposition and her extraordinary contributions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mrs. Sherry Jean Williams for her public service.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Sherry Jean Williams.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
