RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1436


A resolution recognizing Maurice Moffitt.


WHEREAS, Maurice Moffitt was recently inducted into the Nashville Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame and is truly worthy of this recognition; and

WHEREAS, a member of the Hall of Fame is chosen based upon their ability, longevity, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and their contribution to their team and the game of baseball; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Moffitt graduated from the old Central High School, then attended Tennessee Tech University, before transferring to Bethel College where he was a champion baseball player and a star basketball and football player; and

WHEREAS, embarking on his life long dream and love of baseball Mr. Moffitt went on to play semiprofessional and professional baseball for teams in Clarksville and Alexander City, AL; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Moffitt’s baseball career continued with the Monsanto baseball team, which made it to the Semi-Pro World Series, and in 1959 he joined the Hester Battery team that qualified for the Stan Musial World Series; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Moffitt later went on to coach a winning team to the Little League World Series, the first Tennessee team to play in this series; and

WHEREAS, even though Mr. Moffitt no longer plays baseball he still loves the game just as much today as when he played; and

WHEREAS, united in holy matrimony Mr. Maurice Moffitt and Mrs. Nelson Moffitt shall soon celebrate 55 years of marriage and from their blessed union were born three wonderful and devoted children James, Stephen and Lisa who have developed into highly achieving upstanding citizens of their perspective communities; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Maurice Moffitt for his baseball accomplishments, as well as his high level of integrity and character.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Maurice Moffitt.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Maurice Moffitt.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
