RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1403


A resolution requesting the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management to publish information regarding citizen preparedness and response in the event of a terrorist attack or other similar disaster, and to post said information in public buildings of the Metropolitan Government.


WHEREAS, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in New York City and Washington, D.C., as well as the impending war in Iraq have caused fear and confusion among many of the residents of Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, some residents of Nashville and Davidson County may not have the necessary information regarding what actions need to be taken to adequately prepare for or respond to a possible terrorist attack or other similar disaster; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County that the Metropolitan Government publish information about citizen preparedness and response in the event of a terrorist attack or other similar disaster.


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:


Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management to publish information regarding citizen preparedness and response in the event of a terrorist attack or other similar disaster, and to post said information in all public buildings of the Metropolitan Government, including but not limited to public libraries, schools, and Government office buildings.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to Jim Thacker, the director of the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management.

Section 3. The Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management is further requested to inform the Metropolitan Council of the feasibility of and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 hereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
