RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1377
A resolution requesting President George W. Bush, U.S. Senators Bill Frist
and Lamar Alexander, U.S. Representatives Marsha Blackburn and Jim Cooper,
Governor Phil Bredesen, the Tennessee General Assembly, and all mayors
in the State of Tennessee to immediately install and operate the Amber
Alert system within the State of Tennessee.
WHEREAS, the Amber Alert system, which provides immediate public notice of missing children or information that law enforcement agencies are seeking certain individuals for crimes, has proven to be an effective law enforcement tool; and
WHEREAS, several communities have and are installing an Amber Alert system; and
WHEREAS, to be most effective such system should be state-wide.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting President George Bush, U.S. Senators Bill Frist and Lamar Alexander, U.S. Representatives Marsha Blackburn and Jim Cooper, Governor Phil Bredesen, the Tennessee General Assembly, the Tennessee Municipal League, and all mayors in the State of Tennessee to immediately install and operate the Amber Alert system within the State of Tennessee.
SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy
of this Resolution to President George Bush, U.S. Senators Bill Frist and Lamar
Alexander, U.S. Representatives Marsha Blackburn and Jim Cooper, Governor Phil
Bredesen, the Tennessee General Assembly, and the Tennessee Municipal League,
requesting the TML to forward such resolution to all members of the Tennessee
Municipal League.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption,
the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County
requiring it.
