RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1367

A resolution recognizing Ray H. Eaton, Sr., upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.


WHEREAS, effective January 1, 2003, Ray H. Eaton, Sr., retired from the Metropolitan Parks and Recreation Department after forty (40) years of faithful and dedicated service to his colleagues and the citizens of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, Ray H. Eaton, Sr., began his career with the Parks and Recreation Department in 1962, as a laborer at the Shelby Golf Course making a $1.15 per hour before being promoted to Clubhouse Attendant in 1964; and

WHEREAS, Ray H. Eaton, Sr., transferred to the Harpeth Hills Golf Course when it opened in 1965 where his dad, Hershel “Hut” Eaton served as the course’s first manager; and

WHEREAS, he was promoted to Assistant Manager at Harpeth Hills in 1973 before becoming Manager in 1981 replacing his dad; and

WHEREAS, in October of 1995 the Harpeth Hills Clubhouse was named the Eaton Clubhouse after his dad Hershel Eaton and ultimately Ray Eaton upon his retirement; and

WHEREAS, with the retirement of Ray H. Eaton in 2003, seventy-six years of Eaton family contributions to municipal golf in Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County are “celebrated”; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Eaton’s experience, knowledge, dedication and commitment to the Harpth Hills Golf Course will be sorely missed; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Ray H. Eaton, Sr., for his untiring service and wish him much happiness in his retirement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Ray H. Eaton, Sr., upon his retirement from service with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Ray H. Eaton, Sr.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
