RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1362

A resolution recognizing Mr. Shelton E. Quarles.


WHEREAS, Shelton E. Quarles, a native of Nashville, Tennessee, not only graduated from Whites Creek High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and named first-team all-state in football as a senior, but attended Vanderbilt University where he graduated in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Shelton Quarles, NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneer was recognized on Friday, February 21, 2003, at Whites Creek High School during “Shelton Quarles Day” for his accomplishments on and off the football field; and

WHEREAS, Shelton Quarles, defensive specialist and a six-year veteran with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently enjoyed unprecedented success in winning his first Super Bowl and was named to his first career Pro Bowl; and

WHEREAS, throughout his football career, Mr. Quarles always made time for his community, as a tireless volunteer, always first in line to lead a community project, work on a fundraiser, or serve in any needed capacity; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Quarles has been active in numerous civic and community organizations as a spokesman for the American Heart Association in helping organize the annual American Heart Walk, served as an honorary captain for New York Fire Department football team against Orlando Public Service Officers and is heavily involved in volunteering and fundraising efforts with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization along with other community activities; and

WHEREAS, it is kind-hearted men like Shelton Quarles who selflessly give of his time, talents, and energy and who makes the communities a great place to live and work and, it’s only fitting and proper that such a public servant be honored and recognized for his contributions.

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Mr. Shelton E. Quarles for his service to the community and wish him continue success in the future.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Shelton E. Quarles.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Shelton Quarles

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
