RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1343

A Resolution requesting the members of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and have adopted legislation that would enable the Metropolitan County Council to fill by election a vacancy in the office of Vice Mayor and Members of Council.


WHEREAS, state law presently permits the Metropolitan Council to fill vacancies in local offices until the next general election by electing persons to serve in such positions until general elections are held; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council desires to have legislation enacted that would enable this body to similarly fill vacancies in the office of Vice Mayor and Members of Council until the end of the term or until a general election to fill such vacancy.


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby requests the members of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce and have adopted legislation that would enable the Metropolitan County Council to fill by election a vacancy in the office of Vice Mayor and Members of Council.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the members of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
