RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1307


A resolution requesting the Information Technology Services and the Metropolitan Educational Access Corporation to determine the feasibility of using cable channels assigned to them for providing educational information on dealing with natural disasters.


WHEREAS, Information Technology Services operates the Government Access Channel, and the Metropolitan Educational Access Corporation has been formed to provide educational programming on community education channels assigned under our current cable franchise agreement; and

WHEREAS, there is currently available information and videos that would provide appropriate information to the residents of Davidson County on how to deal with disasters such as tornadoes, floods, etc., and, further, could be developed to include information on current bio-hazardous emergencies; and

WHEREAS, working with the Metropolitan Office of Emergency Management, appropriate educational information could be developed and made available through these vehicles, which would be an appropriate use of these cable access channels.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting Information Technology Services and the Metropolitan Educational Access Corporation to determine the feasibility of using cable channels assigned to them for providing educational information on dealing with natural disasters.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Director of Information Technology Services and the Board of Directors of the Metro Educational Access Corporation.

SECTION 3. That Information Technology Services and the Metro Educational Access Corporation are further requested to inform the Metropolitan Council of the feasibility and/or the actions taken in compliance with the request contained in Section 1 thereof, not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.


SECTION 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
