RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1301
A resolution recognizing Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Carr on the occasion of their sixtieth
wedding anniversary.
WHEREAS, Virgil
and Mary Carr were united in holy matrimony on December 24, 1942, and began
their life together; and
WHEREAS, to the union were born ten wonderful and devoted children, Virgil, Donnell, Samuel, Edward, Thomas, Harold, Mary, Peggy, Ethel, and Frances all college graduates who have grown and developed into highly achieving upstanding citizens of the community; and
WHEREAS, Virgil is a veteran of World War II where he was a driver for the “Red Ball Express” before going to work at the Ford Glass Plant which he retired after twenty-five (25) years of service, while Mary was that solid reassuring homemaker who has always been there as a devoted, supportive and loving wife for the children and her husband; and
WHEREAS, Virgil and Mary Carr were active in the Civil Rights Movement and instrumental in helping to desegregate the Nashville Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Carr are members of the Church of Christ at Jackson Street where he served as an Elder of the Congregation for forty-two (42) years; and
WHEREAS, the Carrs have been blessed with eighteen (18) grand children and six (6) great grand children; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes this extraordinary couple on their sixtieth wedding anniversary and extend to them best wishes for continued health and happiness.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Carr on the occasion of their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. and Mrs. Virgil and Mary Carr.
Section 3. This
Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The
Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
