RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1300


A resolution recognizing Mr. Sizwe Herring.


WHEREAS, The Tennessee Environmental Education Association has named Mr. Sizwe Herring, environmental advocate, as its Middle Tennessee Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Sizwe Herring, worked to improve Nashville neighborhoods through educational programs that included establishing EarthMatters Tennessee, an organization which promotes composting, recycling and other Earth-friendly practices; and

WHEREAS, EarthMatters Tennessee is a group of environmental educators, youth and organizations that come together to make a difference in the community and the lives of people in providing services and products to take care of our environment; and

WHEREAS, currently a campus center supervisor at Tennessee State University, Mr. Herring always made time for his community by working with volunteers at the EarthMatters community garden and composting site, and as a senior counselor for Kids To The Country program; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sizwe Herring exemplifies excellence in reaching those goals fostering a love of ecology; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes such a public servant like Mr. Sizwe Herring for his environmental solutions that focus on care for the Earth, people and for the community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Sizwe Herring.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Sizwe Herring.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
