RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-1299
A resolution recognizing the Nashville Metros Soccer Club and two of its owners,
Lynn Agee and Devinder Sandhu, on their induction into the inaugural class of
the United Soccer Leagues Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, the Nashville
Metros Soccer Club was formed in 1989 and is currently the longest continuously
operating soccer franchise in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville Metros are a member of the United Soccer Leagues, the second largest sports league in North America next to Minor League Baseball, with more than 120 adult men’s and women’s soccer franchises and more than 300 youth clubs throughout the United States and Canada; and
WHEREAS, Lynn Agee, a Nashville attorney and Devinder Sandhu, a Nashville engineer, are two of the founding owners of the Nashville Metros and have helped keep the club alive through several reorganizations and changes of venue during the past 13 years; and
WHEREAS, Lynn Agee, Devinder Sandhu and the Metros organization have worked to fulfill their mission of promoting soccer in the region by hosting countless youth clinics, programs for inner-city children, coaching clinics and summer camps, along with helping soccer organizations raise money and obtain professional training; and
WHEREAS, the United Soccer Leagues recently honored the Nashville Metros club for its longevity and contributions to building the sport of soccer in the United States and Nashville by making the club one of 12 inducted into the inaugural class of the USL Hall of Fame in Tampa, Florida; and
WHEREAS, the United Soccer Leagues similarly honored Lynn Agee and Devinder Sandhu among 11 soccer executives across North America with induction into the inaugural class of the USL Hall of Fame for their contributions to building the sport of soccer; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Nashville Metros Soccer Club, Lynn Agee and Devinder Sandhu for their achievements, particularly on being the only Tennesseans inducted into the United Soccer Leagues Hall of Fame.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Nashville Metros Soccer Club and two of its owners, Lynn Agee and Devinder Sandhu, on their induction into the inaugural class of the United Soccer Leagues Hall of Fame.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the Nashville Metros Soccer Club, Lynn Agee and Devinder Sandhu.
Section 3. This
Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The
Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
