RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-973

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to examine the feasibility of acquiring the property located within the boundaries of Broadway, Commerce Street, 7th Avenue North, and 8th Avenue North for purposes of expanding the Hume Fogg Academic High School campus for construction of a new gymnasium and parking facility.

WHEREAS, the gymnasium located in Hume Fogg Academic High School is an unsuitable facility for high school athletic games because of the space limitations and conditions; and

WHEREAS, because of the lack of an adequate gymnasium facility, the Hume Fogg athletic teams must play all home games at West End Middle School; and

WHEREAS, the parking facilities at Hume Fogg are seriously limited and only provide parking for school administration, faculty and teachers; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the students, parents, and staff of Hume Fogg Academic High School, as well as the community as a whole, that this property be acquired for these purposes.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Board of Public Education to examine the feasibility of acquiring the property located within the boundaries of Broadway, Commerce Street, 7th Avenue North, and 8th Avenue North for purposes of expanding the Hume Fogg Academic High School campus for construction of a new gymnasium and parking facility.

SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the members of the Metropolitan Board of Education.

SECTION 3. That the Board of Education is requested to inform the Metropolitan Council in writing of the feasibility of and/or actions taken in compliance with the request in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days after adoption of this resolution.

SECTION 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
