RESOLUTION NO. RS2002-972

A resolution proclaiming March 19, 2002, as Nashville GovDay in Nashville.

Whereas, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County was established at one entity "in the interest of modern, efficient and economical government;" and

Whereas, modern technology has improved the efficiency of communications through use of the Internet; and

Whereas, Link2Gov Corp. and Information Systems Department of Metro Government created a new web portal to serve the city of Nashville at www.nashville.gov; and

Whereas, using the technology and services of the web portal Nashville will be able to provide e-government services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year; and

Whereas, these services now include information about public meetings, public contracts and reports; and

Whereas, using Nashville.gov it is now possible to apply for a job, do business with government, request brush removal; and

Whereas, it will soon be possible using Nashville.gov to make payments for government services, buy surplus property, and renew vehicle registrations; and

Whereas, it is now possible for the public to access streaming video of Metro Council meetings and directly view the proceedings on demand; and

Whereas, it is fitting that the Metro Council recognize and encourage the people of the city to access and take advantage of the services of the new web portal

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Council of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaim March 19, 2002 as Nashville.gov Day.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this resolution to be present to representatives of the Information Systems Department of Metro Government and Link2Gov.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
